    2. A Member who is a Minor and who has a Guardian that is a Member may register such Guardian in their Membership account as their Guardian, to be able to transfer Asia Miles to the registered Guardian’s Membership account.
    3. The Member who is a Minor and the Member who is the Guardian of the Minor must nominate each other as Redemption Group Nominee in their respective Membership accounts prior to performing the registration as Minor and Guardian pursuant to clauses 1 and 2 of this section.
    4. A Guardian must be the legal Guardian of the Minor(s) that are registered as their Minor(s) in their Membership account.
    5. A Minor must be the legal Minor of the Guardian that is registered as their Guardian in their Membership account.
    6. AML reserves the right to request proof (including any relevant documentary proof such as copies of passports, birth certificates, etc.) and take other reasonable steps in its discretion to verify the relationship between a Guardian and any Minor(s) registered on each other’s Membership accounts is in fact a Guardian and Minor relationship. Members must provide AML such requested proof promptly.
    7. AML reserves the right to terminate or suspend a Member’s Membership account and/or cancel or reverse any transfer of Asia Miles from a Minor’s Membership account to the Guardian’s Membership account if the Member(s) fails to provide any requested proof, AML finds any proof unsatisfactory, or AML believes or suspects that a Member has breached any of these terms and conditions or committed any act of Misconduct or Fraud.
    8. Each Guardian may register up to five Minors in their Membership account.
    9. Each Minor may register only one Guardian in their Membership account.
    10. Each Member who is a Minor may only change the registered Guardian in their Membership account once during their Membership lifetime.
    11. The number of times a Member who is a Guardian may register a Minor, replace an existing Minor or add a new Minor to replace a Minor that was removed is subject to the rules described in the Redemption Groups section.
    12. To transfer Asia Miles from a Minor’s Membership account to their Guardian’s Membership account, the Minor must have been a Member for at least one year by the time of initiating the transfer, and must have accrued Asia Miles from flying on Cathay Pacific flights or any eligible flights of our Partner airlines at least once in the 18 months before a request for a transfer of Asia Miles is made.
    13. A Minor must not have accrued any Asia Miles from banking and finance Partners as determined by AML and published on our Website, including but not limited to conversion of Partner bank points to Asia Miles or through spend on any Cathay co-branded credit cards. A Minor will not be permitted to transfer any Asia Miles to their Guardian’s Membership account if the Minor has accrued any Asia Miles from any banking and finance Partners.
    14. Asia Miles may only be transferred from a Minor’s Membership account to their registered Guardian’s Membership account upon successfully completing the required steps for registering each other’s Membership account information.

    17. The guardian can receive 120,000 Asia Miles maximum in a Membership year.
    18. Miles transfer from Minor to Guardian does not count as an ‘eligible transaction’ as described under paragraph 11 of the ‘Asia Miles’ section of these terms and conditions, and therefore will not extend or renew the Minor’s or Guardian’s Asia Miles’ expiry date. Miles transferred to a Guardian’s account will follow the same expiry date of the expiry date of the Miles in the Guardian’s account prior to the transfer. In the case with no Asia Miles balance in the Guardian’s account, the Miles transferred in will be considered as an ‘eligible transaction’.
    19. The Guardian’s Membership account information in the Minor’s account will be automatically removed from the Minor’s Membership account and the Minor’s Membership account information in the Guardian’s Membership account will be automatically removed from the Guardian’s Membership account when the Minor turns 18 years old.
    20. If a Minor’s Membership account is closed or terminated, their Membership account information will be automatically removed from their Guardian’s Membership account.
    21. If a Guardian’s Membership account is closed or terminated, their Membership account information will be automatically removed from their Minor’s Membership account.

    Definitions:
“Minor” means a Member who is aged 2 to 17 years.
“Guardian” means a Member who is an individual aged 18 years or above with legally recognised parentship or guardianship over the Minor(s) who are registered as the minors who may transfer their Asia Miles to their Guardian.

Step 1: From the minor’s account, go to “Update profile”.

Step 2: Click “Add guardian’s contact”. Provide the guardian’s name, phone number, email address and Cathay membership number, ensuring that the information matches the guardian’s account.

Step 3: Add the guardian as the minor’s Redemption Group nominee.

Step 4: From the guardian’s account, add the minor as a Redemption Group nominee.

Guardian accounts can be linked to up to 5 minor accounts. Note that minors can only transfer miles to a guardian for free if certain conditions are met. See Q9 for further details.

Keep in mind that you can only make one edit to the guardian information during your minor’s membership lifetime. If you’ve already edited guardian information online once, you won’t be able to make further changes. To edit guardian information, follow the step-by-step instructions below.

Step 1: On the minor’s account, click “My profile”, then “Personal information” and scroll to “Guardian’s contact”.

Step 2: Provide the name, phone number, email address and Cathay membership number of the new guardian account, ensuring that the information matches what’s shown on the account.

The link between the accounts will last until your minor reaches the age of 18. At that point, any guardian information will be automatically removed from your minor’s account.

Please follow the steps above to add the membership number and complete the form.

Each minor account can only have one guardian account linked to it. Keep in mind that you can only edit guardian information once during your minor’s membership lifetime.

We reserve the right to audit family relationships by asking you to provide proof of family relationships.

Transferring miles from a minor to a guardian is complimentary, up to a maximum of 120,000 per membership year. Additional transfers will be subject to a service fee. Learn more here.

You can receive a maximum total of 120,000 from the minors linked to your account within a membership year, without incurring any transfer or service fees.

The link between minor and guardian Cathay accounts will last until the minor reaches the age of 18. At that point, the guardian information will be automatically removed from the minor’s account.

Once a minor turns 18, they will no longer be eligible to transfer Asia Miles to a guardian for free.

Yes, you can remove guardian information on the “Update profile” page of the minor’s account.

If your minor is not currently a Cathay member, you can sign them up here and then link them to your membership. Minors must have been a Cathay member for at least 1 year before you can transfer miles.

You may transfer Asia Miles from a minor without service fees if the following conditions are met:

    • The minor has been a Cathay member for at least 1 year.
    • You have already linked your Cathay membership to your minor’s account. See Q1 for further details.
    • You have already added your minor as your Redemption Group nominee.
    • The minor has already added you as their Redemption Group nominee.

Once these conditions are met, you can transfer miles from your minor for free by following the instructions below.

Step 1: From the minor’s account, go to “Update profile”, then click “Manage your miles”.

    Step 2: Click “Complimentary transfer”.

Step 3: Choose the number of miles you would like to transfer. You can transfer up to 120,000 per membership year for free, with a minimum transfer requirement of 2,000.

If you exceed the annual free transfer quota or if any of the above conditions are not fulfilled, a service fee will be applied. If you would still like to proceed, follow the step-by-step instructions below.

Step 1: On the minor’s account under “Transfer miles to redemption group nominees”, select “Transfer now”.

Step 2: Choose which redemption group nominee you want to transfer the miles to (this should be the guardian’s account). The minimum transfer amount is 10,000 and you can transfer more in increments of 5,000 miles.

When the minor reaches the age of 18, a guardian’s information will be automatically removed from their Cathay account. As a result, a guardian will no longer be eligible to transfer Asia Miles from the minor for free.

Unfortunately, if your minor has earned Asia Miles from any of our Banking and Finance partners, they are not eligible to transfer miles to a guardian for free. They may continue to transfer miles to Redemption Group nominees by paying a service fee.

See the full list of our Banking and Finance partners.

Make sure that you have already added your minors as your Redemption Group nominees.

Each guardian is eligible to receive mileage transfers free of charge, from a maximum of five Cathay members between the ages of 2 and 17.

Please note that the transfer of Asia Miles must be initiated from the minors’ account.

Please make sure you have added your minor as a Redemption Group nominee in your account. Your minor also needs to have been a Cathay member for at least 1 year to transfer miles to you for free.

No. Once a mileage transfer is completed, it cannot be reverted.

No, miles can only be transferred for free from a minor to a guardian. You can transfer miles to all Redemption Group nominees, subject to a service fee. Learn more here.

No, mileage transfers do not count as an activity for the purpose of preventing Asia Miles from expiring from your account.

Transferred miles will follow the same expiry policy of the  miles already in the account. For example, if your existing miles are due to expire in 14 months, the transferred miles will also expire at that time. If you have no existing miles in your account, the transferred miles will be considered  an ‘eligible transaction’ and will expire 18 months from the date of the mileage transfer.
