Hyatt’s boutique brand just launched its biggest outpost in the world: the brand new Andaz Macau is a two-tower complex and part of the Galaxy Macau behemoth. It’s located in the heart of the Taipa entertainment district, which sits between the old-school Old Taipa and Coloane neighbourhoods, to the north and south, respectively. The signature Andaz Kitchen offers all-day dining with a mixture of Chinese, Portuguese and Western dishes and sits adjacent to the Macau Steps – a moving multi-floor installation of more than 100 videos and artefacts documenting the city’s diverse heritage.
In a city known for its love of bling, Andaz Macau channels a more subdued and arty taste in decor – from abstract artworks lining the walls to striking sculptures by the lifts. The Portuguese-style mosaic and Chinese cheongsams on display in the sixth-floor lobby conjure a museum-like refinement. The same elegance extends to the rooms – our 730 sq ft suite was a masterclass in taste and comfort, mixing bright, elegant interiors with considered convenience. The turn-down service – complete with chocolates, fruit and handwritten notes – was a cut above. Plus, all guests will appreciate the complimentary mini-bar and take-home sandals.
The happy hour in the lounge: 90 minutes of free-flow wine, beer, cocktails and canapés for all guests daily from 5.30pm – there was even a fun live acoustic duo performing during our weekend stay.
