After a tough few years for all of us, at Cathay we’re working hard to bring back flights and increase capacity as rapidly as we can. And there’s one more feature that’s making its way back into the skies: our monthly inflight magazine.
The first issues of Discovery magazine arrived on board in February 1973, and publication only ceased during the pandemic. Now, half a century since the first issue of our inflight title, we’re bringing you Cathay magazine – on board in all cabins from May 2023.
“Our passengers have always loved and looked forward to the inflight magazine throughout its long history, and we’ve always been proud of our stories and the wanderlust that they inspired,” says Lavinia Lau, Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer. “The new Cathay magazine takes that to greater heights.”
You’ll notice the new name – a name to reflect the evolving direction of Cathay. We don’t want to give away all the secrets just yet, but this is a magazine that reflects the all-new Cathay – one which spans not just travel, but also hotels and holidays, dining, wellness, inflight shopping and more.
We’re bringing you a large, beautiful monthly that delivers on everything that Cathay has to offer while championing our home of Hong Kong and our extended home hub of the Greater Bay Area. With unmissable stories and stunning photography that celebrate the joy of travel, this is a companion for your tray table or your coffee table alike.
“We’re so excited to be travelling again, and to be reconnecting with the people, places and experiences which make life so delightful,” says Cathay Pacific Group CEO Ronald Lam. That’s why our first issue is themed around reconnection, which we explore in a multitude of ways.
Also for this special issue, we’ve created eight different covers, spanning eight locations around the world as seen from the window of a Cathay Pacific aircraft. If you’re flying with us in May, check them out in your seatback – ask your neighbour to have a look at theirs. We think they’re all fantastic.
The magazine has been created with sustainability fully in mind. Cathay is printed with eco-friendly vegetable oil ink on environmentally responsible and ethically produced paper certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). All used copies of the magazine will be recycled to ensure they have a life beyond our planes.
There’s something special to seeing this spectacular world from high in the skies. And with Cathay magazine, we’re bringing you a window into a little bit of wonder.
And it goes without saying that there’s bigger and better to come. Look for your copy of Cathay magazine – on board all Cathay Pacific flights and in our Cathay lounges, whichever month you fly.
