No Haikou shopping guide would be complete without Haikou Qilou Old Street. A visit here is like stepping back in time. This historic area is renowned for its traditional arcaded buildings and offers a truly local shopping experience. Here, you can find everything from daily necessities and souvenirs to Hainan specialities and home appliances. Prices are affordable and bargaining is encouraged.
The area includes Zhongshan Road, Bo’ai Road, Deshengsha Road and Xinhua South Road. Zhongshan Road is more touristy, while other areas are more local. For dried seafood, head to Dongmen Market on Bo’ai South Road. The street itself is a cultural treasure, with its unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, making it a must-visit for both shopping and sightseeing.

Another excellent option for duty-free shopping is the Hainan International Duty-Free Shop. Although it’s located relatively far out from the city centre, it offers a wide range of products, including luxury brands, cosmetics, jewellery and electronics. The spacious layout and well-organised sections make it easy to find what you’re looking for, as do the sales staff who are known for their efficiency when lending a helping hand.

Located within a stone’s throw from each other, Wanghai International Plaza and Mingzhu Plaza are part of a nearly 30-year-old commercial area that remains popular with locals. Known for quality goods and low prices, this area is perfect for those looking to experience local shopping culture.
