Extra baggage charges

Checking your baggage allowance

You can check your baggage allowance by asking our chatbot, logging into Manage Booking or by checking your ticket itinerary.

Ticket itinerary
Your baggage allowance is measured either by piece (PC) or weight (K). You can find these details in your itinerary under baggage.
For example, 2PC = 2 piece allowance and 23K = 23kg weight allowance.

The following information is for flights marketed by Cathay Pacific. If you're flying with another airline, or if your journey is via the U.S. or Canada, but crosses multiple flight sectors internationally, please check the carrier rules.

First and Business

Each additional piece can:

  • Weigh up to 32kg / 70lbs
  • Within size up to 158cm / 62in in total dimension
  • Any extra baggage over over 158cm / 62in (up to maximum of 203cm / 80in) in total dimension will be subject to an oversize charge
Premium Economy and Economy

Each additional piece can:

  • Weigh up to 23kg / 50lbs
  • Within size up to 158cm / 62in in total dimension
  • Any extra baggage over 23kg (up to max of 32kg) will be subject to an overweight charge
  • Any extra baggage over over 158cm / 62in (up to maximum of 203cm / 80in) in total dimension will be subject to an oversize charge

We cannot accept any baggage over the maximum weight of 32kg / 70lbs and 158cm / 62in in total dimension. Your bag’s total dimension is the sum of its width, height and length.

Please also check the maximum dimensions for standard baggage allowances.

Items that exceed the agreed size must be repacked into split-up units, otherwise they will not be accepted on the flight. To avoid disappointment, please contact our Customer Care at least three working days before you fly if your bag is oversized and/or overweight.

Special arrangements can be made for sporting equipment, musical instruments, travelling with pets, mobility aids, medical equipment and diplomatic baggage.

When travelling on flights marketed by Cathay Pacific, you can redeem Extra Baggage Awards with Asia miles. The Asia miles required depends on your travel distance.

Charges for each overweight / oversized piece

This applies for each bag in excess of your flight class weight allowance or an oversized piece of baggage between 158cm / 62in and 203cm / 80in in total dimension.

Learn more about oversized and overweight baggage charges.

  • If your ticketed baggage allowance is by weight (kg), simply subtract the weight of your free luggage allowance from the weight of your bag. The remaining difference will be charged per kilogram. If you’re travelling with multiple bags, their combined weight makes up your baggage allowance.
  • Any single bag weighing more than 32kg / 70lbs has to be split into lighter units. The extra weight will be charged by the kilogram.

Please contact our Customer Care at least 3 working days if your bag cannot be split and you need to travel with a bag this large.

  • If your ticketed baggage allowance is by piece and you bring more than your allowed number of piece or any extra pieces that results from repacking, there will be an extra baggage charge.
  • Please note that the weight of any single bag must not be over 32kg / 70lbs, and its total dimension (the sum of its width, height and length) must not exceed 203cm / 80in in length without prior approval from Cathay Pacific.

Please contact our Customer Care at least 3 working days if your bag cannot be split and you need to travel with a bag this large.
