How to get to Zhuhai from Hong Kong

Sharing a long and beautiful coastline with Macao, overlooking the Zhujiang River Estuary in the Guangdong province, Zhuhai was the Chinese Mainland’s first Special Economic Zone in the 1980s. Today, it’s one of the most buzzing destinations in the Greater Bay Area,  home to verdant golf resorts, theme parks and manmade islands that take advantage of the city’s waving palm trees, ample open space and a relatively lower population density. No wonder it’s earned the nickname of the “City of Romance”.

Hong Kong to Zhuhai via Hong Kong International Airport

With a mere 60km between them, there are no flights connecting the two cities – however, a plethora of transport options still abound for those arriving to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

For a seamless direct transfer, a new SkyPier coach transfer to Zhuhai is available from Hong Kong International Airport, where your bags can be checked through to your destination. You can book Cathay Pacific's Direct Air+Land flight and coach tickets through our website, and your tickets will be combined into a single booking.*

Another option is the shuttle bus at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port , which is accessible via Hong Kong airport buses usually starting with “A” or other feeder bus options such as Citybus B5 from MTR Sunny Bay Station. Alternatively, you can take the New Lantao Bus B4 from the airport.

Not to be confused with the Hong Kong-Macao route, this 40-minute shuttle bus to the Mainland port operates round the clock with peak period headway at five minutes, and non-peak period two or three times the frequency. Overnight waiting time may be 15 to 30 minutes. Daytime tickets from 6am to 11.59pm cost HK$65, while any other time costs HK$70.

Parking at the port is available but remember to pre-book online to secure your spot.

Hong Kong to Zhuhai by highspeed railway

Though there is no direct path from Hong Kong to Zhuhai via highspeed railway , the whole journey with transfers, takes no more than two and half hours.

Passengers from the city need to hop on the high-speed trains from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Shenzhenbei Station, with trains departing as frequently as every 15 minutes. Fares range from HK$82 for second class to triple the price for business class, should privileges like leg room, complimentary amenities like earplugs and swivelling seats be important to you on the 18-minute journey. Do note that prices on booking platforms are always set in RMB.

From Shenzhenbei Station, hop on a connecting train that’ll arrive at Zhuhai Gongbei Railway Station in less than two hours, depending on the class of train. Classes “D” and “G” are preferred, taking you to your destination at speeds of up to 300km/h. Fares range from around HK$129 for second class to HK$409 for business class – complete with fully reclining electric seats.

Those who have Mainland Chinese phone numbers can purchase tickets for both legs via the Railway 12306 website or app, available on iOS and Android , for up to 60 days in advance. Meanwhile, foreign passport holders can book via the website’s English version. Tickets will need to be picked up at West Kowloon station with valid identification.

Hong Kong to Zhuhai by car

Compared to bigger cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen, there are fewer private buses to Zhuhai. Kwoon Chung Trans-Island Bus offers pick-up from HKIA, Tsim Sha Tsui and Prince Edward to Zhuhai landmarks like Hengqin Bay and Xiangzhou. Service runs from 6.30am to 8pm, depending on location, each for under HK$200.

If privacy is a priority, SkyLimo offers a deluxe chauffeur service from HKIA, complete with English-speaking drivers. For door-to-door pick-up, other service providers such as S.T. Travel Service Co. Ltd offer car hire in tour buses or five- and seven-seaters to Zhuhai, taking you across the border from Shenzhen Bay, Huanggang, Man Kam To, Sha Tau Kok and Heung Yuen Wai Control Ports.

Hong Kong residents also have the privilege of driving across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge since early 2023. However, they must be registered owners of a non-commercial private car that measures less than six metres in length and has eight or fewer seats – including the driver’s. The vehicle must also have licenses and permits for both Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland to enjoy stays for 30 consecutive days upon entry but no more than 180 days within a year.

*Direct Air+Land is available for selected routes on our website. For regions where this service is not available, please make your booking via a travel agent. If you're departing from Taiwan China, please purchase your coach tickets separately. We’ll arrange your bags to be checked through when you check in at your departing airport.
