3. January performances in the city

It’s a gloriously mixed bag this year, as you’ll be able to see everything from martial arts masters to British standup comedians this January. The Wing Chun Dance Theatre spectacular is a high-intensity drama blending martial arts and dance in celebration of kung fu trailblazers like Cantonese legend Ip Man, whose story was most famously brought to life in a series of popular films starring Donnie Yen. Speaking of icons, Cantopop stars Jacky Cheung and the Twins are back for concerts running from mid-December till 4 January and 21-27 January respectively.

Jimmy Carr is bringing his standup show Jimmy Carr: Terribly Funny to the city on 17 January, delving into truly terrible topics with his unique brand of tongue-in-cheek humour. Singer Brent Faiyaz rounds off the month with the Hong Kong leg of his It’s a Wasteland tour at KITEC on 30 January, where you’re likely to find the city’s trendiest residents swaying in time to the music.
