Oversized cabin baggage
You may purchase an extra seat for your oversized or valuable item, so you can bring it along into the cabin. All oversized cabin baggage must not contain dangerious goods and must comply with our guidelines for restricted and prohibited items. Book your ticket with our reservations office rather than online, so we can help organise your extra seat.
Purchasing an extra seat
Please get in touch with our local reservations team to book your ticket. Do not book your extra seat online.
You’ll need to notify us at least 3 working days before you intend to depart, so we can make necessary arrangements, such as the deployment of installation equipment.
Whilst we don’t like to say no to our customers, we can only accept you on board if we have granted permission for you to travel with your item.
Items acceptable for travel
Cathay Pacific flights can accept the following items provided they can fit on the passenger seats in respective of sizes and weight defined below:
Religious idols
Religious idols can be accepted on Cathay Pacific flights, provided that they match the requirements below. We will place your item into an idol box, and then inside a canvas bag, before tying it down on a passenger seat. This is to ensure the item does not get damaged or move about during the flight.
To travel with a religious idol, please note the following requirements:
- Travel accepted in Economy class only
- Should be within dimensions of height 60 cm (24 in) / width 36 cm (14 in) / depth 36 cm (14 in)
- Must weigh under 15 kg (33 lb) excluding the idol box
Diplomatic bags and other items
We will place your item in a canvas bag and tie it down on the passenger seat, to ensure it does not get damaged or move around during the flight.
We accept passage with diplomatic bags or all other oversized items (such as artworks and urns) in all classes provided they comply with the following requirements:
- Must be contained in own bag or box
- Should be within dimensions of height 60 cm (24 in) / width 36 cm (14 in) / depth 36 cm (14 in)
- Must weigh under 32 kg (70 lb) including case or box
Musical instruments
You can store larger musical instruments (like a guitar or a cello) on a purchased seat if you do not want to check them in. You must store your instrument in a hard case and fasten it upright into the seat in the canvas bag provided.
