Medical assistance

If you need to bring medical equipment for your travels, please read the requirements on packing and usage to meet your medical needs.

Before you fly

You should contact our local reservations office or your travel agent at least 72 hours in advance of your flight, to let them know of any extra inflight oxygen requirements you may have.

Medical oxygen

Inflight oxygen

Subject to availability, complimentary oxygen for therapeutic or medical purposes (up to a maximum flow rate of 4 litres per minute) may be available on Cathay Pacific flights in cylinders. In order to determine if inflight medical oxygen will be available and in sufficient amount for your flight, please contact our reservations office and make your request at least 72 hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight.

Medical clearance

Passengers are recommended to complete a MEDA form and submit to your local reservations office at least 72 hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight.

In the MEDA form, your physician should specify the litres-per-minute flow rate required (Our cylinders can only provide rates of 2 or 4 litres per minute of constant flow oxygen, by mask or nasal cannula). We ask that you retain the original and bring it with you for your flight(s).

Refrigeration of medication inflight

For hygiene reasons, we will not be able to refrigerate your medication. If you are bringing medication which requires refrigeration, you should pack them into a cool bag or vacuum flask along with dry ice in quantities of less than 2.5kg (5.5lbs) – all suitably packed to allow the carbon dioxide gases to evaporate freely. Please inform our airport staff that you are bringing dry ice onto the flight when you check in.

Ice gel packs (should not exceed 100ml for each pack and are subject to security control under the carriage of LAGs) may also be used inflight.

Personal oxygen equipment

We may transport your personal oxygen equipment, for instance those filled with gas, in the cargo hold as long as it is packed and labeled in accordance with our “Dangerous Goods” regulations. For more information, please contact our reservations office.

For safety reasons, oxygen cylinders brought by passengers may not be carried or used on board our flights.

Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC)

Passengers may also bring and use their own Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC’s) on board. For more information, please read the information in Passengers Travelling with Medical Portable Electronic Devices.
